Bourbon in May launched a bid from the 3/8 pole and passed all but one rival to finish 2nd beaten a length in an allowance race for four-year-olds and up, going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Gulfstream Park Sunday afternoon VIDEO
With a clean break from post position 6 of 7, Javier Castellano took a hold and looked to save ground going through the first turn. Handled well through an opening quarter mile in :24.09, Bourbon in May raced comfortably in last some seven lengths back as the front runner and eventual winner Opry (1) carved out pedestrian fractions.
Unchanged down the backstretch, Castellano gives Bourbon in May the green light as they pass the 3/8 pole going widest of all. Through 3/4 of a mile in 1:13.35, Opry was certain to stay on while others chased. Coming out of the far turn and moving best of all, Bourbon in May was set down and finished strongly to the wire earning place a neck best of Road to Meath (3) in a final time of 1:42.33 CHART
