Verrazano has been entered in the 11th race at Monmouth Park on Sunday, June 16th. It is the Pegasus S. (G3) for 3-year-olds, going 1 1/16 miles on the dirt. He has drawn post position 1 of 7 and will be ridden by John Velazquez. The purse is $150,000, and approximate post time is 6:00.
Over the last six weeks, Verrazano has beenconsistantlytraining at Belmont Park including three workouts over the training track. He most recently breezed 1/2 mile in :47.41, which was black-type for the day. He's shown good energy since exiting the Kentcky Derby (G1) and looks to be in good form coming into the Pegasus S. (G3) at Monmouth Park.
Verraznao will have to face Itsmyluckyday in the Pegasus S. (G3), who was runner up to Orb in the FLorida Derby (G1) this past winter and most recently second in the Preakness S. (G1) to Oxbow. He looks to be the main competition in the race and without a doubt a top flight thoroughbred.
We're hoping the Pegasus S. (G3) will also serve as a good prep race for the our early Summer season goal, the Haskell Invitational S. (G1) at Monmouth Park next month.
