Verrazano has been entered in the 13th race at Monmouth Park on Sunday, July 28th. It is the Haskell Invitational S. (G1) for three-year-olds, going 1 1/8 miles on the dirt. He has drawn post position 7 of 7 and will be ridden by John Velazquez. The purse is $1,000,000, and approximate post time is 6:20.
Coming off an impressive 9 1/4 length win in the Pegasus S. (G3) at Monmouth Park last month, Verrazano clearly rebounded well from a demanding Kentucky Derby trail and looks to improve off that effort.
He's had several good workouts since exiting the Pegasus S. (G3) including his most recent 1/2 mile breeze in :47.20 over the Saratoga main track.We really like how he's coming into the race this Sunday, and the outside post position (7) should give Velazquez some options leaving the gate.
Once again,the Haskell Invitational S. (G1) has drawn several outstanding three-year-olds with exceptional credentials while others are looking to take the next step as improving colts. The outcome could play a significant role in determining this year's top three-year-old honors at the year end Eclipse awards.
