Giocare Graduates Maiden Special Weight

Giocare rallied under Irad Ortiz, Jr. to graduate by 1 1/2 lengths in a maiden special weight race for three-year-olds, going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Saturday afternoon VIDEO

Breaking from post position 2 of 6, Giocare broke in slightly at the start and Ortiz did a fine job securing a spot on the rail. Tracking the frontrunner Bear Alley (5) with River Stones (3) to his outside, Ortiz found himself in jail through a dawdling half mile in :49.54.

At a pivotal point, Edgard Zayas used Don Bourbon (6) to keep Giocare down inside; consequently, Irad had to let him go then shift outside, which cost Giocare some ground. Coaxed along by Ortiz around the far turn, Giocare found his best stride outside horses and kept on nicely after 3/4 of a mile in a pedestrian 1:14.16.

Racing determinedly coming out of the turn, Giocare leveled off nicely and collared Bear Alley in deep stretch finishing well clear at the wire in a final time 1:45.19 CHART.
