El Padrino Wins Risen Star

February 26, 2012

Talk about an exciting horse race! Saturday’s Grade II Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds Race Course was one of the most exhilarating races Let’s Go Stables has experienced.

After El Padrino’s impressive Gulfstream allowance win last month and his series of solid workouts, we were expecting him to run a good race-- and that he did.

In the saddling paddock and during the post parade he seemed in high spirits, showing his typical feistiness. After breaking well, Castellano settled him into the third spot two wide. Once he hit the quarter pole, Castellano let him loose and as Mark Valeski began to pull away from the pack, El Padrino was right behind him. In the final furlong the two horses were neck and neck right down to the wire where El Padrino beat him out by a nose. El Padrino showed off both his talent and his heart running the 1 1/16 mile race in 1:42.96

He will fly back to Palm Meadows Training Center on Monday where he will continue his training. In the coming weeks we will monitor his training and decide where to enter him next. We realize that it’s early in his three year old season, but we’re excited for what the future may hold for our colt, and proud of what he’s accomplished so far.
