Deemed Essential 2nd in MSW
Monday, November 23, 2020 | RSS Feeds

Deemed Essential finished 2nd beaten three lengths in a maiden special weight race for two-year-old fillies, going 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Gulfstream Park West on Saturday afternoon.

Breaking well from post position 2 of 8, Deemed Essential and Edgard Zayas were away in good order but out-footed early as front runner and eventual winner Dial to Win (8) sprinted out for a comfortable lead on the field.

Racing in fourth down on the rail through an opening quarter mile in 22.10, Zayas guided Deemed Essential outside horses and started to gather momentum as the field rounded the far turn.

With an eye on Dial to Win, Zayas set Deemed Essential down for the drive and she responded through the stretch, but the winner wouldn't give an inch crossing the finish line in a final time of 1:18.41.

This was another good effort from our daughter of Upstart having placed by a short neck in her debut. We'll look for a good spot going two turns for her next start.
