With and explosive turn of foot, Bourbon in May drew off to win by 6 1/2 lengths in a starter allowance race for three-year-olds and up, going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Aqueduct on Saturday afternoon VIDEO

Breaking alertly from the inside post, jockey Jose Lezcano secured a ground saving trip early as several rivals raced clear. As they made their way around the clubhouse turn through an opening quarter mile in :22.81, Bourbon in May looked to be traveling well under Lezcano some seven lengths back in 5th place.

Racing down the backstretch, Lezcano improved his position up the rail as the field hit the far turn. Still down inside after 3/4 of a mile in 1:12.15, Bourbon in May looked ready to pounce but was forced to steady slightly as Mohican (4) was backing up with Hardest Plan (5) to their outside. Unable to tip out, Lezcano guided Bourbon in May through a small seem inside a fading Mohican.

Front runner Starting Point (9) was in command throughout and looking to extend his lead at the top of the stretch. With clear sailing, Lezcano angled outside that foe and Bourbon in May unleashed an explosive turn of foot though the lane drawing off by more than six lengths after a couple taps on the hip. Looking much the best under the wire, Bourbon in May finished in a final time of 1:42.94 CHART

The effort earned Bourbon in May a career best BSF 88. The team is very pleased with the performance, and it is worth noting that he closed the final 5/16 of a mile in :30.16 - racetrack time.
