Bourbon in May put forth another solid effort finishing second in an allowance race for four-year-olds and up, going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Gulfstream Park Sunday afternoon VIDEO
Away in good order from post position 7 of 10, Bourbon in May and jockey Javier Castellano secured a ground saving trip early towards the back of the pack. Around the first turn through a blistering opening quarter mile in :22.60, front runner Everyonelovesjames (6) put up five lengths on the field and it was another seven or more lengths back to Bourbon in May traveling well on the rail.
As they raced down the backstretch through a half mile in :45.29, Everyonelovesjames looked vulnerable as Castellano geared up looking for racing room around the far turn with Motataabeq (10) to their outside. Unable to tip out, Catsellano patiently waited for a seam to open and punched through a gap, splitting horses at the top of the stretch.
Set down for a drive, Bourbon in May responded well with a quick turn-of-foot but could not run down post time favorite Largent (3) who sat the trip and kicked on in convincing fashion in a final time 1:38.96 CHART
