March 2019

Already a spectacular sprint winner of his debut, Soldado has a pedigree that indicates that he can carry his speed a distance.

Soldado is from the first crop of More Than Ready’s spectacular son, Verrazano. Running in the colors of Let’s Go Racing Stable, Verrazano captured four graded stakes at three, including the Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) - which he took by a record 9¾ lengths, while running the fastest Beyer Speedfigure of the year by a sophomore - and the Wood Memorial Stakes (G1). With his oldest runners only three, Verrazano is already sire of not only Soldado, but also stakes winners Stirling Drive, Seek and Destroy and Mockery, and stakes placed Myhotrodlincoln, Artemus Bridge and King Dilly.

Soldado is the second foal and second winner for his dam, stakes placed Trisha’s Even, herself a half-sister to the dam of stakes winner Color Blind. Soldado’s second dam, Trisha Brown, is half-sister to the stakes winning and multiple graded placed Up an Eighth, and to Veronical, she the dam of Lan Kwai Fong, a graded winner and classic placed, and granddam of grade two winner One More Honey.

Trisha Brown is out of stakes placed Hey Majesty, a half-sister to Broad Brush, successful in the Santa Anita Handicap (G1), Wood Memorial Stakes (G1), Suburban Handicap (G1), Meadowlands Cup (G1), Pennsylvania Derby (G2) and Ohio Derby (G2), and subsequently Leading Sire. Hey Majesty is also half-sister to multiple stakes winner Hay Halo, and to the dams and granddams of group and granddams of group and graded winners Mull of Kintyre, Tokai Wild and Asmarani, and stakes winners Love Sam, High Strata, Madame Uno, Genoveva, Not Likely and Crossatyourownrisk.

Through his next two dams, stakes winners Hay Patcher and Turn to Talent, Soldado traces to Kentucky Oaks heroine Hidden Talent, also ancestress of Champion Two-Year-Old Colt, Capote; Exceller, an 11-time group and grade one winner, and conqueror of Seattle Slew; Champion Warhorse; and other group and grade one winners Bob and John, Barney Roy and Gordon Lord Byron.

Soldado is a product of the very successful More Than Ready/Unbridled’s Song cross that has produced Let’s Go’s graded stakes winner Made You Look,  and other graded scorers Copper Bullet, Brightexpectations, Life Imitates Art and Colour.
