Two of the greatest runners of the modern era are American Pharoah and Ghostzapper, and both appear close up in the pedigree of this exciting yearling. In 2015, American Pharoah stamped his indelibly in the annals of racing history becoming the first horse to sweep the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978. After completing this feat - thought by many to be beyond reach in the current ultra-competitive environment - American Pharoah completed his astonishing career by humbling older horses in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1).
Regarded as the most exciting stallion prospect for a generation, American Pharoah, has understandably been in tremendous demand at the yearling sales. Let's Go Racing Stables was delighted to be able to secure a son of American Pharoah who is not only an exceptionally athletic individual, but is also out of an extremely talented young mare. The dam, Schiaparelli, won five of nine starts, and was placed in three other races, her only off-the-board effort being a fourth in a stakes at Santa Anita. The highlight of Schiaparelli's career came with a wire-to-wire victory in the Royal Heroine Mile (G2). Schiaparelli also showed tremendous pace when leading throughout to take the Great Lady M Stakes at Hollywood Park by 2 1/2 lengths in 1:08.66. Another marvelous effort by Schiaparelli saw her run two-time Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1) heroine, Mizdirection, to a half-length in the Las Cienegas Stakes (G3).
Schiaparelli's sire, Ghostzapper was fast enough to earn a grade one victory sprinting, but carried his speed to win the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) in record-time. An extremely successful sire, Ghostzapper is fast-emerging as a broodmare sire, and in that role also appears in the pedigree of the 2018 Triple Crown hero, Justify.
Schiaparelli is half-sister to the John C. Mabee Stakes (G2) victress Moulin de Mougin, stakes winning and graded stakes placed Bronson, and to stakes winner Alexis Tangier. She is also half-sister to Vionnet, who is not only grade one placed, but is also dam of Roaring Lion, winner of the Eclipse Stakes (G1) over older horses, and at the forefront of Europe's best three-year-olds in 2018.
Cambiocorsa, the dam of Schiaparelli was also an extremely rapid racemare. Her triumphs included the Las Cienegas Handicap (G3), Senator Ken Maddy Handicap (G3) and Wishing Well Stakes. In turn, Cambiocorsa is a sister to the brilliant California Flag, winner of eight stakes events, including a trio of victories in the Morvich Handicap (G3), as well as the Hollywood Turf Express Handicap (G3), the San Simeon Handicap (G3) and the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
An A+ nick, this colt is bred on the cross of Pioneerof the Nile - the sire of American Pharoah - out of Deputy Minister line mare, which has also produced two-year-old graded winner Levante Lion, who like this colt is out of a mare by Ghostzapper.
