Champion Turf Horse and runaway Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. I) victor, English Channel is now firmly-established as not only one of North America’s leading turf sires, but also as a horse capable of getting top-class runners one dirt, turf or all-weather surfaces. He has already sired 30 stakes winners, including Travers Stakes (gr. I) captor V. E. Day; classic winning champion Strait of Dover; grade one winners The Pizza Man, Interpol and Al’s Gal; $2,000,000 earner Paranda; millionaire Heart to Heart; and other grade two winners Blueskiesnrainbows and Skyring.
This son of English Channel is half-brother to Keystoneforvictory, who defeated The Pizza Man to take the Stars and Stripes Handicap (gr. III), and who also captured the Forty Niner Stakes by 3¼ lengths. It’s interesting to note that Keystoneforvictory is by Shakespeare, a son of Theatrical, also the broodmare sire of English Channel. Keystoneforvictory is the dam’s first foal, and her second starter is Morning Stride, a 2017 two-year-old who is a maiden special weight winner on his turf debut.
The dam of this colt, Free Fee Lady, was beaten just a neck on her debut, and was then victorious in a maiden special weight, the Bison City Stakes – which she took by four lengths over Champion Embur’s Song – and Wonder Where Stakes, on her only other outings. Free Fee Lady is also a sister to Drake’s Victory, successful in the California Cup Mile Handicap.
The granddam is out of a daughter of Gay Serenade, winner of the Gallorette Stakes and Pageant Handicap. Gay Serenade is dam of graded stakes winners Gulls Cry and Gala Regetta, and stakes winner Tom’s Serenade. Gay Serenade is also ancestress of graded stakes winners Navesink, Nemain and Derrianne, and stakes winners Squadron, Tapitation, Okie Smokey, Grand Reserve, Notable Okie, Anclote, Efficient Frontier, Synergist, Fly Love, Tea Box, Imah and Arctic Eclipse.
This is also the family of Kentucky Derby (gr. I) hero and classic sire, Grindstone; Spinaway Stakes (gr. I) victress Buzz My Bell; Pass Catcher, successful in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I); and Champion Free My Heart.
