Verrazano Set for Debut at Gulfstream
Sunday, December 30, 2012 | RSS Feeds

Verrazano is entered in the 2nd race at Gulfstream Park on Tuesday, January 1st. It is a maiden special weight race for 3-year-olds, going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt. He has drawn post position 9 of 11 and will be ridden by John Velazquez. The purse is $52,500, and approximate post time is 1:13.

A soon-to-be 3-year-old colt by More Than Ready, Verrazano is a half-brother to LGS stable starEl Padrino (G2). Verrazano and El Padrino undoubtedly share similar physical traits and attributes - most noticeably their size and athleticism on the track.

Verrazano comes in to the race sporting a series of very good workouts over the last six weeks at Palm Meadows training center in Boynton Beach, FL. He most recently breezed 1/2 mile from the gate in :48 flat on December 27th and looks to be poised for a good run.

Velazquez and Verrazano will face top connections saddling promising runners, including several colts with race experience - an advantage at any level. It should be a good test for our debut runner, and we believe Verrazano will be up to the task.
