Verrazano Entered in the Travers
Wednesday, August 21, 2013 | RSS Feeds

Verrazano is entered in the 12th race at Saratoga on Saturday, August 24th. It is the Travers S. (G1) for three-year-olds, going 1 1/4 miles on the dirt. He has drawn post position 3 of 9 and will be ridden by John Velazquez. The purse is $1,000,000, and approximate post time is 5:46.

Coming off a dominating performance in the Haskell Invitational S. (G1) at Monmouth Park last month, Verrazano looks to be the one to beat as the 2-1 morning line favorite in this year's edition of the "Midsummer Derby" at the Spa.

Of course, the Travers S. (G1) presents several difficult challenges for our standout three-year-old colt, but none more so than the competition lead by Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Orb and Belmont S. (G1) victor Palice Malice.

Verrazano has been doing well in the mornings the past few weeks while training at Saratoga, and has had a couple nice workouts over the main track including his latest 1/2 mile move in :48.65 on August 18th. He seems to be doing very well and is coming into the race nicely.

This year's Travers S. (G1) lured an exceptional field once again, and we're thrilled to have Verrazano as the morning line favorite in such a prestigious race at the premier racing venue in North America. The stakes are high this Saturday, and with a divisional title on the line, we're hoping for another top flight performance by our stable star.
