Tough Start for Dr. English in MSW
Friday, November 23, 2018 | RSS Feeds

Dr. English finished 7th beaten 5 1/2 lengths after a dreadful start in a maiden special weight race for two-year-olds, going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Aqueduct on Wednesday afternoon VIDEO

Breaking from post position 5 of 11, Dr. English and John Velazquez were flat out of the gate and forced to steady at the start after Lisbon (6) shied inwards. Losing any chance at an early stalking position, Dr. English fell back 15 lengths after an opening quarter mile in :23.63 and trailed throughout the first half.

With too much ground to make up, Velazquez urged Dr. English down the backstretch and sustained a decent run eventually passing a couple horses through 3/4 of a mile. With no legitimate chance to hit the board, Dr. English was ridden to the wire under no pressure. The winner and post time favorite Demarchelier (1) won by a head in a final time of 1:44.29 CHART
