Smash Williams finished 2nd beaten 3/4 of a length in a maiden special weight race for two-year-olds, going 5 1/2 furlongs on the dirt at Belmont yesterday afternoon VIDEO.

Away in good order from post position 9 of 9 with John Velazquez up, Smash Williams was hustled from the start and pressed the early pace, which was secured by the eventually winner Psychoanalyze (8). The pair raced around the far turn a few lengths clear of Magnanimus Man (4) in third.

Through swift splits of :22.48 and 46.35, Smash Williams and Psychoanalyze were both set down and dueled head-n-head through the stretch. Psychoanalyze prevailed stubbornly to the wire repelling Smash Williams to his outside. It was another 4 1/4 lengths back to Crea's Bklyn Law (7) and the final time was 1:06.32 CHART.
