Outshine Wins Debut

Outshine impressed onlookers striding out through the lane to graduate in fashion at Belmont Park yesterday afternoon in less than ideal conditions. Our two-year-old son by Malibu Moon scored by 2 3/4 lengths under the wire and going away over a sealed-sloppy main track VIDEO

Breaking from post position 3 of 6 with John Velazquez in the irons, Outshine was brushed out the gate and pinched slightly at the start. He soon got his legs under him and was put to task early as they raced around the far turn some 5 lengths back off the pacesetter Strike Play (5).

Through an opening quarter mile in :22.72, Velazquez guided Outshine outside horses after taking a fair amount of kickback. Once clear, Velazquez gave Outshine his cue and with a light tap on the hip, and he ranged up along side the leader in eye-catching fashion about four wide.

As they hit the top of stretch, Outshine took the lead and looked to be rolling down the lane under some urging from Velazquez. Once alone in front, Velazquez kept busy late to stay on through the wire. The final time was :58.72 CHART

This was an impressive debut for Outshine. We were thrilled to see him overcome some mild adversity early having been squeezed slightly from the gate and taking kickback for the first time over a wet track. Outshine looks like a horse with a bright future.
