El Padrino's Breeder Reflects on Mating

March 6, 2012

Blood-Horse and True-Nicks recently published articles on El Padrino examining how much of his success must be credited to his outstanding breeding. Our colt by Pulpit ex Enchanted Rock by Giant's Causeway was bred by Emory Hamilton and foaled at Middlebrook Farm near Lexington, KY.

El Padrino's impressive physical structure and easy going demeanor are products of Hamilton's well planned breeding. Enchanted Rock's large build was passed onto the colt, as noticed by his solid stature. Although Pulpit is infamous for producing feisty offspring, El Padrino bucks this trend with his gentle temperament.

We were lucky enough to purchase El Padrino at the 2010 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $210,000. Considering his breeding, it was quite the bargain. With his recent success, we realize that he was an even bigger bargain than we originally thought.
