El Padrino Set for Gulfstream Allowance

January 24, 2012

El Padrino will begin his three-year-old campaign this Sunday in an allownce race at Gulfstream Park. This will be his first start since a fast-closing 3rd place finish in the Grade II Remsen Stakes in November.

El Padrino has trained well this winter with a series of strong workouts at Palm Meadows Training Center. On Monday he put in his latest work, breezing five furlongs in 1:02 4/5 over a slow track with a strong headwind in the lane.

After considering several options, including Sunday's feature race, the Grade III $400,000 Holy Bull Stakes, we decided to take a more conservative route and opted for the allowance. With a good run on Sunday, we'll look to move forward, eyeing several possible graded stakes next time out.We want to build a good foundation for El Padrino and give him every chance to improve each step of the way to the starting gate in the 2012 Kentucky Derby.

We look forward to the race this Sunday - Let's Go!
