El Padrino Returns to Gulfstream

December 18, 2012

El Padrino is entered in the 4th race at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday, December 19th. It is an allowance race for 3-year-olds and up, going 1 mile. He has drawn post position 4 of 6 and will be ridden by Javier Castellano. The purse is $60,500, and approximate post time is 2:09.

El Padrino has been conditioning very well over the last six weeks at Palm Meadows training center in Boynton Beach, FL. He comes into the allowance race with a sharp breeze going 5/8 of a mile in 1:00.63 on December 13th. He finished up well to the wire that morning with a solid gallop out to our delight. He looks great physically and has been improving each week in his fitness level.

The 1 mile allowance race presents an opportunity for El Padrino to take the first step towards his early season goal of the Donn Handicap S. (G1), going 1 1/8 miles at Gulfstream Park on February 9th. He'll have is work cut out for him as he hasn't raced since a troubled trip in the Kentucky Derby (G1) earlier this year; however, he's been training forwardly and we're confident this race can set him up nicely going into a final prep prior to the Donn Handicap S. (G1).
