Divine Oath 2nd in Lexington
Monday, April 21, 2014 | RSS Feeds

In only his third career start, Divine Oath finished willingly and was up in time for place beaten 4 lengths in the Lexington S. (G3) at Keeneland this past Saturday, while the winner Mr. Speaker (1) was impressive.

Divine Oath brushed the gate at the break and was away slowly. Slightly squeezed as they headed into the first turn, Javier Castellano was content to check out and drop over on the rail. After an opening quarter mile in :24.13, Divine Oath and Castellano raced four lengths back in fifth place while saving ground down the backstretch.

Unchanged through a half mile in :48.07, Castellano urged Divine Oath and rallied five wide around the far turn. As they hit the top of the stretch, Mr. Speaker (1) changed lanes to the outside of Supermonic (10) and drew clear while Castellano and Divne Oath continued to race willingly to earn second place.

Although he did not get the win, Divine Oath ran well, and we're pleased with the performance. We're hopeful he'll continue to improve as the season goes on, and we look forward to his next start.
