A two-year-old colt by Medaglia d'Oro, Dissident won a maiden special weight race in front running style, going 1 1/8 miles on the turf yesterday afternoon at Keeneland VIDEO
Away from the gate in good order, jockey Julien Leparoux was willing to set the early pace with a keen Dissident (5) as they approached the first turn. After a swift opening 1/4 mile in :23.13, Leparoux was then able to slow to a moderate pace as Dissident travelled well down the backstretch with long shot Principio (10) to his outside.
As the pair rounded the far turn, Principio gave way as Dissident opened up a 2 1/2 length lead on the field turning for home. Set down for the stretch drive, Dissident was kept to task through the lane while closers looked to make their bid.
