Bourbon in May ran well in his debut to finish 2nd beaten four lengths in a maiden special weight race for two-year-olds, going 5 1/2 furlongs over a soft turf course at Keeneland yesterday afternoon VIDEO

Breaking from post position 9 of 12, Bourbon in May and Jose Ortiz were away in good order but out-footed early by the inside speed. Racing in 5th seven lengths back through an opening quarter mile in :22.49, it was clear Bourbon in May didn't like the soft going; however, he responded nicely when asked for run around the far turn.

With a lot of ground to makeup, Ortiz went five-wide and set Bourbon in May down for the stretch drive. Looking to make his bid for the wire, Bourbon in May grabbed the bridle and passed a few rivals through the stretch while eventual winner Corruze (1) took control and kicked on for Robby Albarado.

Never in doubt, Corruze and Albarado got the job done in fine fashion while Bourbon in May and Ortiz found themselves with too much to do and had to settle for place. The final time was 1:05.22 CHART
