Bahama Halo 3rd in Our Dear Peggy

Bahama Halo endured a troubled trip to finish 3rd beaten 3 lengths in the Our Dear Peggy S. for two-year-old fillies, going 1 mile on the turf at Gulfstream on Saturday VIDEO.

Breaking from post position 3 of 10 with Edgard Zayas up, Bahama Halo bumped the gate at the start and was checked sharply as Creative Talent (2) looked to make the lead at all costs.

Racing in tight through the first turn, Zayas had no chance to secure a forwardly placed position early and settled for a ground saving trip some five lengths off the lead.

Never in good rhythm down the backstretch, it looked as though Zayas miscalculated his ride having to steady and go several times through a half mile in :48.42. As they raced around the far turn, it looked as though Zayas wanted to edge out but was kept in jail by eventual winner Silver Diva (9).

Left with only one option, Zayas had to steady slightly yet again and hope to see daylight up the rail coming out of the turn.

With a tiring Clouded Appeal (1) and Callie California (8) off the rail, Zayas finally had an opportunity to give Bahama Halo her head. Striding out nicely, Bahama Halo passed those rivals up the rail and looked poised to make her bid.

Angled out at the top of stretch, Bahama Halo hooked Silver Diva and the two looked as if they would run in tandem to the wire. After a few strides, Silver Diva came over on Bahama Halo and shut her off causing Zayas to pull up slightly and effectively end their bid. The final time was 1:38.64 CHART.
