Ready Dancer was edged late for place and finished 3rd beaten 4 1/4 lengths in a maiden special weight race for two-year-olds, going 5 furlongs on the dirt at Belmont this afternoon VIDEO.

Away in good order, Ready Dancer and jockey John Velazquez pressed early as California invader Dalmore (2) broke sharply on top and 2/5 favorite Paynes Prairie (4) rushed up along the outside forcing the issue.

Ready Dancer responded well running head and head with Paynes Prairie as the pair quickly collared Dalmore and turned for home. Paynes Prairie proved too good as he leveled off nicely for a decisive score. Ready Dancer fought well to the wire but lacked the seasoning and foundation to challenge a well-seasoned winner CHART.

This was a very promising effort from Ready Dancer, and we'll likely point for another maiden special weight race at Saratoga.
